Biography
Ashra Kunwar from Nepal is a young, spirited singer / songwriter and founder of an alternative / modern rock band Ashra Kunwar & The Parables. Some recognize her from the 'The Voice' days whereas some know her as an Environmental Research scientist or the Brand Ambassador for Agricultural Development Bank Limited. She is a Kathmandu born who started her musical career since her schooling (2008 AD) days and has always been a huge Metal / Progressive / Alternative / Hard Rock music enthusiast. In 2017 AD, she was involved in an all-girl band JOTs as one of its founding member and also did a few gigs. After the band collapsed in the same year, she later was encouraged by one of her friend to participate at The Voice of Nepal. She was now well known after her selection in Season 1 of it where her rendition of Led Zep's Whole Lotta Love was featured for the first time at 'Voice Global' platform as a rep from Nepal. After the reality show, she got the opportunity to tour at various International venues of Australia, South Korea, India, Canada and even Egypt where she was invited as the only Nepali singer to perform at “World Theatre At Sharm El Sheikh". She also got a chance to collaborate with 10 international artists in making an original song called “Standing Now As One" which was dedicated to the world as a message to be resilient while the Covid 19. Freshly back from the tour, she formed a new band called “Ashra & The Warlords" for her Nepal Tour. However, she wanted a different name for her band and as she was always inspired by stories / tales in her song - she named it “Ashra Kunwar & The Parables. Parables - intended to mean as a story hidden in every song she does in correspondence to her love for nature. Ashra Kunwar aims to set an example as a tireless woman in the world someday by being an effective communicator and a spirited leader both as a stage performer & an environmental activist. She believes that her music will someday heal the world in one way or the other.
