Biography

From the younger days of DIY home recordings to the enigmatic figure that Jerusha is today in our music scene - songwriter, music producer and a Scorpio, Jerusha Rai, has been experimenting with folk and roots sounds, blending in hypnotic, psychedelic sensibilities. Their two albums “A Dark Place to Think” (2016) (self produced by Jerusha) and “Sunsaan” (2019) - although sonically diverse and different, deal with indigenous identity, displacement and spirituality from a deeply intimate space. For the past decade, Jerusha has lived in Kathmandu, London and Austin working with exciting contemporaries from the homeland and diasporas like Baaja, Didi Bahini, Haami, Diwas Gurung, Jaire, Lawpacks and Bartika Eam Rai. They have performed at renowned spaces like The October Gallery, BBC Introductory Stage and Joon Festival and has also been touring Nepal on and off. Besides musical work, they have also produced musical scores, academic research and numerous artist interviews covering the contemporary Nepali music and art scene.
