Biography

Led by Maria Fajardo on the vocals and Abhishek Bhadra on the keys, Jooni is a contemporary Jazz ensemble from Kathmandu. Maria, a Spanish singer/songwriter and Abhishek, a Nepali pianist, are both directors at Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, and as such their contribution to promote and revolutionize the Jazz sound in local circles and among music enthusiasts in Kathmandu has been greatly appreciated. With combinations of Western and Eastern musical instruments, and an inclusion of individual artists from all around the globe, Jooni is revolutionary in its ever-evolving ways. Their 2020 debut album for instance consisted of musicians from Germany, Poland, Korea, Switzerland, and Chile. Jooni, in their music, talk of journeying through life and its experiences, and depict ethereal concepts of their compositions. And to quote them - "For us, Jooni is the here and the now."
