As opposed to the bombast that buried much of the jazz-rock fusion of the time, Inception is tempered by open-ended improvising and precise ensemble interaction. The spirit of pleasure that pervades the performances is one of the single's standout features. The track is well composed, there is enough instrumental prowess and intensity, the single does not necessarily drags on for too long. The music is driven by a duel between guitar and drums, as on most other fusion albums of the time, yet the rock side prevails and finds its place in the mix. A landmark track that, mainly wordlessly, addresses the idea of a certain, restricted environment where one is supposed to let their feelings run wild and remains a showcase for Kapali's scorching playing. Without vocals, this kind of pathos can be hard to evoke without a direct way to connect with the listener, but as they so often do, Bijay Kapali rise above the norm to imbue his instrumental musings with the kind of emotional hooks that dig themselves into the listener quickly and effectively.
