Topi

Biography

Topi is a pop/rock duo with an easy listening sound. The band was originally formed in 2006 with the goal of participating in an intra-college music competition. The first lineup of the band was Aava Shrestha (vocal), Anam Raj Sharma (guitar), Bikash Shrestha (drums), Pramithus Khadka (guitar) and Samip Bhattarai (bass). A single “Khula Aakash” was recorded by the original lineup in 2007. As with most musical groups formed in college, the members all pursued different career paths and the band was on a hiatus. Pramithus started to work on new songs with the same sound that Topi always wanted to produce. In January 2011, Topi released their debut EP “Geet Haru” that consisted of five songs. Shortly after the release of “Geet Haru”, Pramithus and Rohit started to work together on a single (later called “Thorai”) which eventually led to a full length album and Rohit officially became a part of Topi. In January 2014, Topi released their debut full length album “Mitho Bihani” that consisted of twelve songs and had collaborations with Astha Tamang-Maskey and Lochan Bhattarai. The band is currently working on their second full length album. Fun fact one: the song “Thorai” was originally called “Thorai Najik Aauna” but the song title was too long to fit on the frame of the music video so it was changed to “Thorai”. Fun fact two: Pramithus and Rohit have never met in person after Rohit became a part of Topi, all their collaborations have been online as they reside in two different countries. Fun fact three: follow up to fun fact two, Topi have never performed live as a duo but they hope to do that soon.
