Moonflower and Footprints to the Moon - a band and album name that sounds refreshing to the scene and let us tell you - so does the sound!! A playful amalgmation of brit pop and indie amongst many styles and the sweet melodies are a strong vice in this one. "Ecstasy" starts off the EP and instantly makes you feel like you know it. Reverse audio is always fun. A mixture of The Smiths, The Cure and most certainly the post 00s alternative and indie breakout bands, this is a well balanced opener. If we have to give analogies, this sounds like White Stripes' - We're Going to be Friends with Arctic Monkeys as the backing band or fresh like far cousin of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by DBS. Nothing copied - just describing the vibe. The flow is good but the only drawback is that the vocalist doesn't seem fully comfortable delivering the supposed to be gliding lines. A lovely start nevertheless. "Still" comes in next and the alternative goodiness is evident from the get go. The nostalgia in the sound of this song is bound to bring a smile to your face if you've grown up on up Wave songbooks and MTV / Channel V / MCM. A well arranged song that constantly reminded us of The Verve Pipe, the guitars are lovely as well on this one. The consistency continues on "This Time" that builds up as a dream pop tune before taking a swerve to an indie fueled anthem. The vocal layerings and guitar fills are top notch but the verses draw in a bit too much from their inspirations in our opinion. The added rocker of a riff after the song finishes - we'd love to see that turn into a full song. The somber "Oh Rain" follows reminding us of Jack Johnson at times - especially at the mouth organ fill - and it's a nice switch of pace for this EP. The chord switches and fills from the acoustic guitar is lovely. But once again the pronunciations are really something we hope the vocalist works on as it would propel this band further - so much more - given the freshness of these tunes and styles in our scene. "Underwater" is the last track on this record and starts off with well - underwater sound samples - before building into a steady rocker. The Strokes are evident on this one and is a kickass tune to close the album off. The overall sound is refreshing to say the least and it's a good debut. A bit of work on the vocals and lyrics and we'll have an Indie legacy in the making!
