Aman Karna's 2021 EP, "Mixed Bag" is a breath of fresh air. True to its name, with "Mixed Bag", Aman has created a collection of songs that is each a world of its own, that all come together under the artist's stylistically distinct and unique sound. "Au Revoir'' gives the 6-track EP a dreamy start. The slow, lofi track, that features vocal performance by Lishma, coupled with an ingenious electro-indie production, relaxes you and at the same time makes you anticipate what is next to come. In "Simple Serious Solvable'', Aman has put together snippets of audios about climate change to bring forward a bigger purpose in his musical compositions. "Dis Xo'' is groovy and other-dimensional, and with it, the EP establishes its style in the retro beats and the experimental layering of vocal snippets that border on a psychedelic aesthetic. Traditional instruments, Bollywood references, and some classical vocals , and their infusion to modern beats - this is not new to Nepali music, but Aman's ability to have fun with it, almost candid and carefree, creates an ethereal experience for the listener. The classical folk in "Euphoria" and the touch of R&B in "Nuff Washed" are examples of this. The last song is "Spell Backwards", whose calming harmonies and moody beats give the EP a mystical, satisfying ending. Pulling inspiration from cultures and genres all over the world, Aman's stylistic choice in composition shines through in "Mixed Bag". Each song sounds like it deserves a time and place of its own, and overall, the EP invites for more.
