“It Begins” marks the starting track of this EP which works well as the intro song to this or any of their live gigs. A repetitive lick that builds on to a bigger sound with the vocals kicking in reminiscent of Marilyn Manson in many ways. Yes – comparisons will always be there between a band and its inspirations – but they explored a sound that wasn’t done in our scene. Kudos to that ! The second track is “Welcome to the Underside” which is a crowd pleaser live and is a frantic 3+ minutes of stating that “Underside” is here. Reminiscent of the 90s and 00s alternative metal sound that most of us grew up on, this one is a banger and the transition mid-song is impressive. “All Notes Off’ follows suit which feels like a frantic alarm sounding off in the distance and is one of the grooviest numbers off the EP. A crowd participatory song – those of you who have been to their gigs – those who don’t – make sure you catch them next time. The fourth track “Pride” is a riff carnage and straight up in your face with old school harmonics and aggression flowing through and through. “Disconnect” is the next one and as we sll know it is famous for the music video as well. Check it out if you haven’t yet ! The riff and groove on this one is tasty to say the least and is bound to move even the stiffest of necks and bodies. The second last track on this EP is “Prototype” and it sounds calm and aggressive at the same time with the vocals applying the former effect against the music. A more straight up approach on this one as it gives way to the most experimental track on the EP per se – “Part Animal Par Machine”. Reminiscent of tracks like “Virus of Life” or “Danger Keep Away” or “Man That Your Fear” – the atmosphere is a pleasant one for any industrial music fan and sounds like a monologue or a self-affirmation of the chaos to come or the darkness that was. An interesting outro for the EP – repetitive and hypnotic. All in all an impressive debut from the now bigger than ever metal staples of Nepal.
