“My blood as ink, a dark place to think and echoes of sirens”, something about this line that just grips people and puts them on their toes. Minimal synth that builds its way up to claps, percussion, se se loops and a layered outro, “Sirens” is one of the best openings that an album could ever have. “Native Stranger” is second and Jerusha’s knack for these hooks that just gets stuck in your head is priceless - Exhibit A - the chorus and outro of this song. Her songs are mostly poetry in motion and before you know it you find yourself bobbing along to “Little Gods”. The live arrangement of this one is always intriguing and the subtle Hai feels like a quick nod to Japanese anime and manga – but – BUT the song itself has nothing to do with that and this is one of the highlights of this album. “Parade” is as hypnotic as a track can get with multiple layering of vocals and is the most Moon Pixy Cat Power song in the most original way. The beauty of open tunings, “Wolverine” is the trippiest offering on this album and when that lick kicks in it always feels like it’s time to party. “Now there's this sign against my wall says grace is free but is not cheap” – she is definitely a modern day poet. The ‘Heera Harayo” OST – “Sway” is the second last track on this album and is a song to sway to with a slow percussive buildup. The multiple layering of vocals and the low frequency gives Jerusha a unique sound in our music scene and the experimental landscapes she presents in her songs is truly commendable. “Farmer in the Sky” closes this record off and has some of the best vocal performance on it – not taking nothing away from the other tracks – but this one is perfect as the album closure as it tends to leave many wanting more. All in all, one of the most impressive debut albums ever with one of the most unique sounds ever in our scene.
