The name “Purple Melody” completely encapsulates the calmness, tranquil and controlled ferocity through these electro, neo R&B, pop and hiphop elements fused into these 14 tracks. Bad Neighbor starts off with an intro track entitled “Fantasy” and it gives you an idea of the sounds that are about to follow. The chill auto tune laden vocals and a synthy atmosphere builds up to “Enough” and it occurs to you that this record feels like a mix of the britindo explosion via Raghav, Jay Sean with a 2021 filter. A chill melody. The vocals do feel like you need to get accustomed to before you can dive in completely. “What’s Goin On” is a smooth jam with brrs and krrts in the instrumentation. There is still a hint of Nepali-pan in his enunciations that actually gives the songs a unique feel. “#HTL” is up next and the smoothness meter dials up a bit. Compared to the first track, he seems more settled and comfortable on this one. “Osama” comes in next – Im bout to blow up like Osama yeah – caught you off guard and it is now clear that PM holds his ground better when he’s more on the hiphop side of things. “Fire Alarm” ft. Amazumi starts off normally, and you wish things change, but they do when the vocals start and when Amazumi starts singing the verse, you realize that not only she’s fire while spittin rhymes but ‘aago’ while singing as well. A cool track this one. “Trip” is an interlude that slowly connects you to “Problems” which is the braggadocios anthem of the record of not giving a fwaak. “Valley Girl” features Easi12 as Purple sings the hook, this is a smooth and another fun featurette of the record. “Timi Ra Mah” feels like the NeYo flair this album was missing. “Right Now” feels like a slow party bopper whereas “WYGCM” feels like a game of langurpurja on the streets while bboying. “Spaceship” then features Uniq Poet with an old school intro – A fresh vibe change for the record – With my alien love up on a spaceship – On the dark side of the moon but we stay lit – an easy going flow and definitely a fun track and things close off with “Perceive” which is an outro in the same veins as the intro. While this album does have its moments, we would definitely like to hear him to let go off the safety nets and totally go unhinged and even play off the featurettes that he has mustered. The beats are fun and the music is retro yet fresh.
