Ama Lai Shradhanjali” LP is exactly what the title suggests it to be. It is a tribute to the late great Hira Devi Waiba and her tunes and melodies by her daughter Navneet and son Satya. Hira Devi is held as a pioneer of Nepali folk songs, Maruni and also one of the first ever to record a Tamang selo song. Revered with many awards including the Gorkha Dakshina Bahu, Hira Devi is a name not to be forgotten and Navneet has done justice to this in every way with this tribute album. “Aye Syangbo” starts of the record with low dronings, chimes and flutes before turning into a playful Tamang selo tune. The arrangements are lovely. It is to be noted that these are re-recordings of some of the most memorable tunes of Hira Devi. “Fariya Lyaidiyechan” brought so many memories back to us as well as it was a part of our growing up. The arrangements are layerered and beautiful. “Chuiya Ma Hah”, “Dhankuta”, “Ramri Ta Ramri”, this album is a celebration of Hira’s life and compositions. A sweet homage and a fun trip down the Tamang selo lane. This is a recommend for anyone who wants a piece of history, nostalgia and fun folk tunes. “Kahu Bela” is the highlight for us in this record. Here is to the legacy and life of reverence. This album was launched at Patan Museum with Kutumba doing the backings and can be a prized addition to any music collection.
