Divine Influence’s EP Scarecrow is a five tracker groove metal nostalgia. “Subtle” starts things off for this one with its minor toned ambient guitar pluckings with an ominous feel. The title suits the track well as this is the intro track for the “Interculture” comes in next building on the intro intro a sludgy djenty affair and a prolonged scream. The song delves into groove metal territory and is pretty straight forward with its approach. A brooding and doomy start to the EP and the variation with panned guitars in the later half of the song before the drums turn into triggers and start of a kick based groove. The sweet little guitar solo in the middle is a much appreciable twist. “From Your Lips to God’s Ears” is a chaotic affair that starts without a warning before settling down into a dynamically planned out song with breaks and legatos and riffs. This is one of the highlights of the EP. The outro and latter quarter is pure power. “Breakthrough” is a stomper and headstrong with its approach. With the post 00s metalcore and modern groove metal scene in mind – you’d know what to expect from this track and the EP. The title track comes in next and we know why this was the leading single with a video. Proper riffages, fun balance with the djent and time signatures, this is a hip affair with different flares. A fun record for those who enjoy the different from of cores.
