Shoegaze and dream pop from a band in Nepal. An album we started playing with much hope and excitement. The band and EP name give away most of the influences that you can expect from the record. The five tracker starts off with tons of reverb and a monotone guitar strums before the bass and drums kick in. “Eklo Sahar” kicks off this affair and we realize that the band adds a pinch of pop punk as well. The vocals are airy and reverb laden maybe a bit too much that it gets lost as ambience but it does give the tune a fun feel. “Far Away” comes in with a repetitive legato and the synths with the rhythm section makes this immediately fun to listen to. “Aash” comes in next and sounds like a mix of Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine. This track plays it right with its heaviness, dreariness and nonchalant vocals and is a good track overall. While the shoegaze part of things is a bit toned down on the record, dream pop and post punk are definitely two major elements of the record. Joy Division screams through and through in the next track “Sunrise” – an up-tempo number featuring S.Rai. The vocal and guitar infused melody sections are fun on this one. “Set Me Free” is the final track on the EP and feels like part deux of the second last track and in a good way. The balance of fun and gloom is lovely on this track. Now that we come full circle with this record, even though we understand what the band aimed for in terms of ambience, the vocal has been mixed a bit too low than necessary and that is the only downside on an otherwise different, retro, interesting and cool record in our scene.
