The clean version of Cinema is here. “Insomnia” starts things off and it feels like an omen…a grim warning of sorts..with key hits that lead to a drone laden section. Who needs the movie samples anyway except Muse Eek Nepal– Hmm – To each their own. The EP stands strong even without it as “Mayalu” comes in next with its 90s Nepal TV sitcom vibe with a chill beat on top of it. The layerings and samples and the chill ambience is what defines this EP. Lo-fi and electronica with scribbles, oohs – a bit of everything. “Chino” comes in next and if you’re like us you remember Chino Moreno first instead of Chino - that movie. Moreover, sustained key notes and a Kid A-ish vocal layering, this is the most lofi but trip hoppish sounding track of the record and a highlight for us. A smooth bossanova style feel to the groove of this one. “Kusume Rumal” comes in next as we feel like a certain entity took away all the rumal because they never feel like they had enough. Anyways, what a way to close off the record, Rajan Shrestha delivers an earnest vocal melody on this one – Saharai bhariko sapana batulera – ritto gilaas ma rakhne ho bhane – mann nai maarera – afno lai chai – katai ko kuna ma sachne ho bhane. This EP is personal and reflective and a summary of all that sounds phat in our head but don’t come out sonically. This is a thought process in motion. PS. That pohor saal outro and laugh is a perfect closure to Cinema.
