Produced by Dan Halperin, Adhunique is Diwas Gurung’s second next release on 2011. This EP includes three songs; Pahelo Pote, Haami Aayou, and Jhari. Adhunique is a creative record that manages to combine the experimental and electronic aspects of the genre. The lyrics of “Pahelo Pote” wheel around flirting and teasing women wearing different colored Pote. Pote or the colorful glass bead necklace of various different colors and lengths and is worn by Nepalese women who are married. Gurung manages to give both sass and the passion this lightweight bubblegum super-fun, flirtatious song deserves. Not only are the compositions better, but the songs themselves are more entertaining, with a good sense of melody, as shown by “Haami Aayou”. “Jhari” is another track in this EP and it is based on “When the levee breaks”. Bikash Rajkarnikar beautifully translated the song and vividly incorporated Nepalese context making it so much relatable. Adhunique is a glorious feast of pop-electronic pleasures, where Gurung and the gang took composition and production to new heights, layering vocals and instruments on top of vocals and instruments to produce an exquisitely symphonic sound.
