Jaire are a two-piece math rock/post punk instrumental band based in Kathmandu, Nepal. They recently released their debut EP, ‘Prakriti | Prabriti’. The EP is a collective of stories that revolve around the band members’ experiences with events concerning animal rights, vegan lifestyle, appreciation of nature, detachment form the social norms, deep rooted love and empathy they feel for their loved ones and so on. Birat Basnet on drums and Mannu Shahi on guitars collectively form this group. The duo has been active in many projects and are prominent figures of the music scene from progressive punk to folk to countless other projects (including Jerusha Rai’s recent Nepal tour). Definitely a band to be seen live and surely any future endeavor from them will be worthwhile. “Jaire” means armpit hair in Nepali and perhaps gives the “take us as we are” attitude that they portray in the most honest sense in their day to day as well as musical lives.
