In 2013, a song was quietly uploaded on SoundCloud, an online music platform. No one outside his small circle of friends and some school mates had even heard of this person till then. Up until that year, he was studying and training to be a western classical guitar recitalist for the past 15 years. But what transpired after that is the stuff made up in folklore. The song was called Wildfire/Dadhelo. Just like the title of the song, it spread like wildfire amongst music listeners across the world. He followed it up with the monsoon inspired ‘Asaar’ and the mighty ‘Mountain High’. He wasn’t a one-song wonder and people started to take him and his music very seriously. In the course of one year, he released his debut offering ‘Sketches of Darjeeling’ which became a template for contemporary Nepali music and drastically changed its trajectory thereafter.. Recorded between 2013-14, the album is a collection of songs inspired by life around the hills of Darjeeling, a small town that sits on the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas. Harmonically blending Nepali folk music with contemporary western musical elements, the songs have the rare quality of touching the pahari heart and transporting the listener to the land where the songs were born. Subsequently, he released the first Single ‘Syndicate’ and released the album ‘Maya’ in 2016 which quickly cemented his place amongst the top indie musicians of the country with the single ending up on everyone’s playlist. Two new singles, ‘Basant’ and ‘Gahiro Gahiro’ were released in 2017 and 2018 respectively. He has since released 3 more singles, ‘Aashish’, ‘Teesta’ and “Mughlan” in 2019 and ‘Neela Akash’ in 2020. He is currently lining up to record some more new music.
